Ok so it’s that time of year again where we all speculate on the biggest game releases of the year and if you like horror gaming then this is the article for you… I am going to give my opinion on some of the horror releases I can’t wait to play this year! Enjoy!!Note: these games are in no particular order.

Routine The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

Routine looks like the type of game that I am only barely willing to play. Thankfully, Outlast thickened my skin a bit, so it may only be because of that that I’m able to endure what looks like a thoroughly frightening game. If finding your way through an abandoned Mars base while some nightmarish creature hunts you down — Routine carries elements of rogue-likes, so you have no HUD and only one life — then this may be right up your alley.

The Forest

TheForest The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

If you’re unfamiliar with The Forest, all you really need to know about it is it’s one part Cannibal Holocaust, two parts The Descent. The premise is simple: you’ve been stranded on an unfamiliar island that’s brimming with cannibals that only come out at night. This gives you the day to prepare for their imminent arrival. If you fail, you die in one of the worst ways imaginable. If you succeed, dawn breaks and you get to do it all over again. Here’s a trailer.

The Evil Within

TheEvilWithin 1 The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

When I think of my most anticipated horror games, an overwhelming majority of them are being developed by indie studios, sometimes consisting of only one or two people. One of the major exceptions to that is The Evil Within, the next (and possibly last) horror game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. I’ve covered it pretty thoroughly here, because while I’m hesitant to fall for its claims to reinvigorate survival horror — mostly because I think the genre is still very much alive, if only through indie horror — it does look pretty damn good.

Daylight1 The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

Zombie Studios, the makers of the two Saw games, are currently hard at work on Daylight, a procedurally generated supernatural horror game set in a long abandoned hospital. The random levels make this game incredibly re-playable, and thanks to an agreement with Sony, this is also coming to the PS4, so you won’t need a beefy PC to enjoy it.

Among the Sleep

AmongTheSleep The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

This may very well be the most unique game on the list, as it’s a horror game you play from the perspective of a toddler, exploring his family’s house during a stormy night. This leaves much of the horror up to the child’s imagination, which, as I’m sure we all know, can be practically limitless. I’m an adult, some would argue “man child” is more relevant, and the things my imagination sometimes comes up with scares me, and I still remember the horrors I believed to be true as a kid. Among the Sleep looks like a fantastic game, and if its incredible demo is anything to go by, 2014 may have its first sleeper hit.

Outlast: Whistleblower

Outlast The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

Okay, so Whistleblower isn’t necessarily a game like the other entries on this list, but it is the first expansion for Outlast, which is quite possibly the scariest game I’ve ever played. That alone earns it a spot on this list, as does the shroud of mystery that still surrounds it. We know it’s a prequel to what’s arguably the scariest game of 2013 and for me, that’s enough.

DreadOut The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

Since Tecmo doesn’t seem to be showing any interest in making another Fatal Frame, we’re going to have to live withDreadOut. Thankfully, this game looks amazing. This is because it’s being developed by a studio that shows an obvious passion for the survival horror genre, as well as the required level of talent to make it possible to create a game that fills the Camera Obscura shaped hole in many of our hearts. I played its demo and enjoyed it quite a bit. Hopefully the full game will show as much promise.

Alien: Isolation

AlienIsolation The 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2014!

That’s right — Alien: Isolation was finally *officially* unveiled, and it looks like a traumatizing blend of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast, only set in outer space where you’re hunted by a particularly scary looking xenomorph. If you’re not already thoroughly pumped for this, I suggest you watch this trailer.

Also, while I totally understand being hesitant about Isolation in a world forever altered by the supremely shitty Colonial Marines, try and remember that this is an almost entirely unrelated project developed by a completely different studio (Total War dev Creative Assembly).

So guys if you’ve got anymore to suggest then feel free to comment below with your idea’s and what games you might be looking forward to! This is just my opinion of some of the titles I am most looking forward to!
