There’s been no news about the Beetlejuice sequel since March, and this latest tidbit barely qualifies as “news” itself, but for those who are starved to hear something, apparently reliable sources are saying Tim Burton is making some moves and adjusting his schedule to direct it himself.

Per Schmoes Know, which says the info comes from “a high ranking studio executive that knows what is going on behind the scenes of everything in Hollywood,” Burton was thinking about dropping out of directing his Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children set up at 20th Century Fox in order to return and direct the new Beetlejuice with Warner Bros. and David Katzenberg, but he ended up being able to shift his schedule and is now looking to do both films.

Seth Grahame-Smith is writing, and from what the Schmoes heard, the script is really good, which, if true, could certainly be the reason for Burton’s piqued interest. That and the virtually guaranteed return of Michael Keaton as the title character, a ghoul hired in the original by a recently deceased couple to drive the new owners out of their house. The sequel is to be a true continuation 26 years later.
